Lavish Hair Salon, nested in the heart of Kathmandu, was opened in January 2017. Known for providing a quixotic salon experience, Lavish offers an exclusive and luxurious atmosphere with its clientele handled by professionally trained staffs. As the salon specializes in haircuts and hair colouring with the use of best brands, WAVE thought of doing a transformation trial.
While the (former) Editorial Coordinator of WAVE Simran Gurung volunteered, Reegan Lepcha—founder of the salon and the beautician trained in some of London’s most prestigious superbrands like ‘Toni & Guy’ and ‘Jo Hansford and Saks’—took his position to transform the pretty lady.
“My hair style desperately needs an overhaul because I’ve been wearing my hair the same way for a long time now. Earlier, I had seriously thought of chopping my hair, but I got nervous when it came to actually do it. But I think I’m ready now. I don’t want a change too dramatic, but I want a new hairdo,” explained Simran while opening up about what she wanted.
“I’M OBSESSED WITH MY NEW HAIR STYLE. MY STYLIST MAINTAINED THE HAIR-LENGTH YET MADE IT LOOK DIFFERENT BUT NOT TOO OVER-THE-TOP FOR EVERYDAY.”—SIMRAN GURUNG, EDITORIAL COORDINATOR, WAVE MAGAZINE
After discussing the right length with Simran and inspecting the nature of her hair, Reegan thought of removing the unhealthy fried hair and colour her hair from mid-length to ends to create a natural-looking graduated layer of highlights.
Simran’s hair had a very dark base, and it had to be pre-lightened. It took quite some time as a mild lightener was used so as not to wreck her hair, and it was overspread several times until the required tone was achieved. After washing her hair and depositing the cool ash-toned highlights, we got a hair-surprise as it blended so well with the already dark base and looked very convenient.
As Simran did not have a routine for regular hair trimming, ends of her hair had gone very dry and damaged, and since the length had to be maintained, Reegan snipped away only the unhealthy ends—not going shorter than 2-3 inches—that added volume and lustre to the dull hair. Since the intent was to achieve an elegant and classy hair with a lot of bounce and movement, he ended up adding lots of textures to it in the process of cutting and styling.
For post-care, Simran will have to use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner to maintain the colour and do the deep-nourishing treatment once in a while just to avoid dehydrating the hair too much.
On her pretty face, she was given a classy light look with rich eye make-up consisting of a dark shadow with a shimmering effect on the corners. Makeup artist Prajina described, “Her skin was a bit dry, dull, and bit dark.” So, the base of similar tone was used and a nude lip colour was applied. Prajina deduces that since she has beautiful eyes, she should opt for regular eye makeup as it will compliment her other facial features.
As Simran is pleased about her new look, she says, “If you’re on the fence about going for a change, you should definitely go for it!”
