Things couldn’t get bigger than Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2017 as the 15th Kathmandu Jazz Festival began with a the Concert for School Students which continued Jazzmandu’s tradition of promoting music and cross-cultural understanding at Alliance Franҫaise on October 12.
The same evening, Candenza Collective, one of Nepal’s earliest jazz band, came along with some friends to jam at Jazz Upstairs, Lazimpat. With congos, guitars, keyboard, drum, bass guitars and vocal improvisations, the night was delightful as it even followed a story telling session. The venue was fully capacitated as jazz enthusiasts flooded the place as they grooved to the tunes of various artists from abroad and the much awaited main event of the night.
Themed as ‘Music for unity, peace and compassion’, jazz has collectively gotten bigger over the years in Nepal. The fest has just begun and there’s still a long way to go.
